    Day 1. Arrive Kunming
    On arrival in Kunming, capital of the Yunnan Province, you'll be met at the airport by an APT representative and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to spend leisure. Once settled in, either relax or head out and start exploring your surroundings. Tonight, meet your Tour Director and fellow travellers for a Welcome Reception at the hotel.

    Day 2. Kunming, Stone Forest
    Kunming blends ancient Chinese heritage with all of the features of a modern commercial hub. A highlight of your time in Kunming is today's visit to the amazing Stone Forest, a collection of karst rock pillars towering skyward. A World Heritage-listed site, the stone karsts rise out of the ground in a similar fashion to stalagmites and have the appearance of petrified trees. Enjoy lunch at Chef Pan's restaurant in Yiliang, recommended by Luke Nguyen. Yiliang is a small town famous for its roast duck, and is believed by many to be the most succulent in China. Return to Kunming this afternoon, and tonight you'll enjoy a unique 'Across the Bridge Noodles' dinner, a famous dish in the Yunnan Province.

    Day 3. Kunming, Dali, Freedom of Choice
    This morning, transfer to the airport for your flight to Dali, at the base of Cangshan Mountain. Here, discover Dali's Ancient City, once the capital of the Bai Kingdom during the 8th and 9th centuries, as well as the Kingdom of Dali between 937 and 1253. Wander the narrow cobblestone streets and admire the traditional architecture before unwinding on a boat ride on the nearby Erhai Lake. Tonight, enjoy Western dishes at Yunnan Cafe Bar or savour local Chinese cuisine at your hotel restaurant.

    Day 4. Dali, Lijiang, Freedom of Choice
    Travel by coach to Lijiang, and on your way, stop at the small village of Xizhou. Visit the Three Pagodas Park, an arrangement of three independent pagodas forming a triangle that's reflected in the waters of an adjacent pond. Head to the river and watch the traditional fishing methods of trained cormorant birds catching fish for the local fisherman. Late this afternoon, arrive in the World Heritage-listed town of Lijiang, located within a beautiful valley at the foot of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Tonight for dinner, enjoy Brazilian cuisine at Em Chamas Brazilian Restaurant or feast on traditional Chinese fare at your hotel's 7 Colours Restaurant.

    Day 5. Lijiang
    Explore the ancient town of Lijiang. The town successfully fuses the many cultural traditions that have been present here for centuries. Spend time discovering the many alleys and canals that weave through the town. Later, have your cameras at the ready as you visit Black Dragon Pool Park, where the bridge spanning the lake, the temple and the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the background provide what can only be described as a photographer's paradise.

    Day 6. Lijiang
    Today begins with a short drive out of town to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, where you'll have the opportunity to ride a cable car up to the Yunshanping viewing platform offering spectacular panoramas of the snow-capped peaks. Later, attend the Impression Lijiang Show. With hundreds of dancers, this spectacle demonstrates the lifestyles of the local minority groups, all set to the backdrop of Yulong Snow Mountain. Return to Lijiang to visit the Baisha Ancient Wall Paintings.

    Day 7. Lijiang, Shangri-La
    Travel by coach towards the remote and intriguing Shangri-La, formally called Zhongdian. As you travel towards Shangri-La, enjoy stunning views of the dramatic landscape of the Yangtze River. Later, stop at Tiger Leaping Gorge to admire this magnificent canyon carved through the mountains by the majestic Jinsha River.

    Day 8. Shangri-La
    Visit the spectacular Baishui White Water Terraces, a natural formation of stepped calcium water pools at the foothills of Haba Snow Mountains. You'll then visit a Tibetan Family before enjoying your afternoon at leisure in the fascinating Old Town of Shangri-La.

    Day 9. Shangri-La, Chengdu
    Visit the fascinating Songzanlin Monastery. Built between 1679 and 1681, Songzanlin Monastery features a striking gilded copper roof which can be seen from miles away shining in the sun. Another unique feature is the world's largest prayer wheel which takes a number of people to turn. This afternoon, visit Pudacuo National Park, located in one of the world's most bio-diverse regions. This national park is home to 20% of the country's indigenous plant species and one third of China's mammal and bird species. Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of this breathtaking region and visit the pretty Bita and Shudu Lakes. Tonight, board a short flight to Chengdu.

    Day 10. Chengdu, Panda Research Centre
    This morning, you'll visit the Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Centre. There, you can get up close to the Giant Panda and learn about the breeding program that has been set up to protect this lovable icon. It's been estimated that there are only 1,000 to 1,500 Giant Panda left in the world today, with around 80% of those in the Sichuan Province. After lunch, visit Chengdu's Jinli Old Street, one of the oldest commercial streets in the country. While Jinli provides a window into China's past, it also offers a diverse blend of ancient and modern China. This evening, enjoy dinner at your hotel.

    Day 11. Chengdu to Beijing.
    Transfer to the airport for your flight to Beijing. Check-in at your luxurious hotel and spend your day at leisure. Step out for a wander along nearby Wangfujing Street, one of Beijing's most famous shopping streets. Get to know your fellow travellers at a Welcome Reception this evening.

    Day 12. Beijing
    Your day begins today with a tour of Tian'anmen Square. Enlarged to four times its original size in the 1950s, Tian'anmen is the world's largest city square. After the tour, head to the World Heritage-listed Forbidden City, the largest surviving palace complex. Located within the Imperial City of Beijing, the Forbidden City was home to 24 Chinese emperors. Entrance to the city was once at the sole discretion of the emperor, but today visitors are able to access this intriguing site of classical Chinese architecture. After some time to look around, you'll visit the World Heritage-listed Summer Palace, built by Empress Dowager Cixi following the destruction of the Old Summer Palace. Formerly known as the 'Garden of Clear Ripples,' the beautifully-tended palace is now named the 'Gardens of Nurtured Harmony'. Here you'll find a variety of palaces, gardens and pavilions as well as Longevity Hill and the man-made Kunming Lake. Indulge in a special Peking Duck banquet with all of the traditional accompaniments in an exclusive private room at the Quanjude Restaurant.

    Day 13. Beijing, Great Wall of China, Freedom of Choice
    Set out for Huairou County and the Great Wall of China. Arrive at the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall of China. Board a cable car and enjoy great views of the wall, the surrounding mountains and the village of Mutianyu. Enjoy time to walk along the wall. Later, visit the Sacred Way of the Ming Dynasty Tombs. After dinner at leisure, attend either a Peking Opera show at Qianmen Liyuan Theatre or enjoy a Kung Fu Show at the Red Theatre.

    Day 14. Beijing, Yichang, Embark Cruise
    After breakfast, hop on a rickshaw for a guided sightseeing tour through the hutongs of Old Beijing and visit the home of a local family. Transfer to the airport and fly to Yichang, enjoying lunch during the flight. On arrival, head to your luxury river ship and settle in for your cruise. Enjoy a delicious dinner on board.

    Day 15. Three Gorges Dam, Xiling Gorge
    Set off on your cruise along the Yangtze River through the Three Gorges region, considered by many to be China's most picturesque area. Perhaps attend a lecture on the construction of the Three Gorges Dam. After lunch, arrive at the dam itself and take a tour of the world's largest engineering project. Later, cruise through the longest of the Three Gorges, Xiling Gorge. After the Captain's Welcome Reception this evening, enjoy a special Welcome Dinner aboard the luxurious Sanctuary Yangzi Explorer with your fellow guests. Enjoy a wide selection of items from the a la carte menu, specially designed by an award-winning chef. Afterwards, enjoy an entertaining crew show.

    Day 16. Shennong Stream, Qutang Gorge, Wu Gorge
    Following breakfast this morning, disembark your river ship at Badong and transfer by ferry to a traditional sampan (longboat). As you cruise on this longboat, poled by local Tujia boatman, you're able to absorb the serenity of the river and take in the crystalline waters, rich surrounding forest and towering rock formations from up close. After lunch on board your river ship, continue to tranquil Wu Gorge, noted for its sheer peaks and cliff faces. Later, your ship will pass between two majestic cliffs on entry to Qutang Gorge, the shortest, narrowest and most dramatic of the Three Gorges. This afternoon, perhaps attend an arts and crafts demonstration on board.

    Day 17. Fengdu or Relocation Tour
    This morning, you might choose to rise early and participate in a Tai Chi class atop the ship's Observation Deck. Disembark for a tour of Fengdu, a graceful little 'Ghost City' that lies in the foothills of the mountains that line the river. Alternatively, you may choose to take a 'Relocation Tour', which will give you an insight into the impact of the Three Gorges Dam project. Later, you may like to attend a Chinese Brush Painting and Calligraphy demonstration, learn how to play the ancient game of Mahjong, learn a few words of Mandarin or participate in a dumpling-making session run by the ship's talented chef. Tonight, enjoy the Emperor Farewell Dinner, a Chinese banquet feast. Get into the spirit of the occasion by dressing up in Chinese costumes.

    Day 18. Chongqing, Disembark Ship, Xi'an, Freedom of Choice
    After breakfast, disembark in Chongqing. Head to the famous Chongqing Zoo, where you can see China's famous Giant Pandas. Pandas have been kept in China's zoos for over two thousand years. Visit a local restaurant for an authentic hotpot lunch before transferring to the airport for your flight to Xi'an. This evening, choose from authentic Brazilian barbecue specialities at Churrasco, a fresh Western buffet at Azur or Chinese fare at Le Chinois.

    Day 19. Xi'an, Terracotta Army
    Discover the attractions of Xi'an today, one of China's Four Great Capitals, and home to some of the country's most iconic sights. Visit the ancient city wall before viewing the world-famous Terracotta Warriors, an incredible collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the First Emperor of China. Stop at a clay factory where impressive terracotta soldiers are still made today. Spend the afternoon at the renowned Museum of Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses. As an exclusive gift, every couple travelling with APT will be given a unique book signed by one of the farmers who first discovered the warriors. This evening, enjoy a special performance of the Tang Dynasty show and feast on a delicious local dumpling banquet.

    Day 20. Xi'an, Shanghai, Freedom of Choice
    This morning, visit the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, a five-storey Buddhist pagoda built in 652. After lunch, fly to Shanghai. On arrival at Shanghai airport, catch the high-speed Maglev train into the heart of the city. Check-in to your iconic hotel, overlooking the Huangpu River. Enjoy some free time before dinner to unpack and settle in. This evening, enjoy a meal of Chinese cuisine at the Dragon Phoenix restaurant, or head to Din Tai Fung for its world-renowned dumplings. Alternatively enjoy a fusion menu at Zen Restaurant.

    Day 21. Shanghai
    Enjoy a stroll on the Bund riverfront this morning before visiting the Shanghai Art Museum. Cruise the Huangpu River through the heart of the city and explore Yu Garden, declared a national monument in 1982. Afterwards, perhaps look around Shanghai's Old City, in which the garden is set. After dinner at leisure, enjoy premium seating at a sensational acrobatic show.

    Day 22. Jinxi, Shanghai
    Travel to Jinxi, an ancient water town an hour from Shanghai. Jinxi's romantic charm is best appreciated during a guided walking tour followed by a boat cruise through the idyllic connecting lakes. Return to Shanghai and enjoy free time to explore before your Farewell Dinner.
